moto2_iannone Andrea Iannone took his third win of the Moto2 season today, and he did it with ease. Iannone started from the pole position and led every lap of the Moto2 race at Aragon. Iannone would finish the race with more than a 6 second lead ahead of Julian Simon, Gabor Talmacsi, and Toni Elias.

The Moto2 race started with a crash at lap one that took out Alex Baldolini, Mattia Pasini, Fonsi Nieto, Ricky Cardus, and Yonny Hernandez. All the riders were uninjured. The field was cut down even further when Alex de Angelis took a disappointing crash.

Season leader Toni Elias, who started in 20th, was able to use the opening crash to his advantage and quickly moved himself up in the standings. By the midway point, Elias was in 10th place.

Julain Simon and Gabor Talmacsi were never able to get close to Iannone, but the battle for second was intense. Talmasci charged late in the race, but wasn’t able to pass up Simon.

Elias continued to gain on the rest of the pack, and had an impressive finish in 4th.

Elias still holds 76 points ahead of Simon. Iannone moves into third, ahead of Tomas Luthi, and is just 4 points out of second.

Iannone Takes FP1, Pasini Excels in the Rain

moto2_pasini After the first day of free practice at the Aragon track in Spain, the Moto2 riders got a good taste of what the Motorland track can offer. The Moto2 riders got in one good dry session in the morning, before the rain came down during the second free practice session.

With the weather dry, and the track in good shape, Andrea Iannone led the Moto2 riders around the track. Iannone was the fastest during the unofficial test in July, and finished today’s session .06 seconds ahead of Julian Simon.

Simon, who is battling Iannone for second place in the overall standings behind Toni Elias, led the FP1 briefly at the beginning of the 45 minute session. Simon dropped in the rankings, but put in a final lap to move him back up into second.

Claudio Corti took third, ahead of wild card entry Kev Coghlan and Elias.

Before the rain fell during the second free practice session, Mattia Pasini was able to put in one quick lap. Passini, who is riding as a replacement for Michael Ranseder, took the second session by .03 seconds ahead of Alex de Angelis. Scott Redding finished third in FP2.

Pasini’s FP2 time was the third fastest for the day, as he didn’t get much of a challenge from the Moto2 riders once the rain started to fall. FP1 winner Andrea Iannone dropped down to 8th during FP2, and season leader Toni Elias finished in 20th.
