The Moto2 riders had a stop and go session today, as a passing storm caused many riders to spend more time in the pits then on the track. But despite the rain, Alex de Angelis was able to claim the top spot on the podium ahead of Scott Redding and season leader Toni Elias.De Angelis set a 2’09.586 time during the first half of the first free practice session, and his time held throughout. In fact, the top five riders, all claimed their spots in the first half of the session, as none of the riders were able to better their positions after the rain started coming down.
However, De Angelis and Redding were both able to improve upon their times when the rain let up, while season leader Toni Elias decided not to risk a crash, and ended the session in the pits.
Elias has an 81 point lead going into Sepang, and if he can finish the weekend without sacrificing 5 points, he’ll be crowned the first ever Moto2 Champion.
Julian Simon and Andrea Ianone finished in fourth and fifth behind Elias.
