Harley Davidson Street Glide Story by Charles Payne

Back Camera

Hello, My name is Charles Payne, I was born with with Cerebral Palsy. My mother & father were told that I would never be able to walk or talk. Well that was wrong, I started to talk a couple years later and started to walk at age of 3 years old. I have been able to do about anything that I set my mind to. I started out cutting grass during the spring, summer &  fall at around age 11 then did that until I finish high school. Then when I reached the age of 21, I told my mother & father that I would like to drive an 18 wheeler because my dad Oliver Payne, almost eighty years of age, used to letter and paint these tractors trailers. He would always let me turn them around in back of his shop and drive them back inside so he could letter or paint the other side. One day, while I was turning around one those tractor trailers, a lady from next to my dad’s shop yells out, “hey Oliver the truck is rolling and no one is in there.” My father replied “yes there is, it’s Chuck.” I was only eight years old at that time. Then one day I decided to try to get my class A driving license and I did. I drove for 11 years and for 4 of those years I had my own truck. I did cross country driving and held two safe driving awards. There was something else I wanted to do though and that was to ride a motorcycle cross country and back. I called up Dean Liken, my first boss with Ryder trans, and told him my Idea and he said “well let me call someone that I know very well at a local motorcycle dealership.” I then had a motorcycle to ride across country, to make a long story short I will just say I just got back off of a 8,397 mile road trip. I am now wanting to do whole entire world on 2 wheels to let other people know anything is possible if set your mind to do something. The worst handicap someone can have is laziness . I hope I will find a way to achieve my goal so I could help others. I feel like those companies that may want to be a part of this ride, would not be only advertisement but would help a lot of people throughout the world. I can also see that this ride may also let people know that they should get out there & do whatever they can do & not expect handouts from other peoples hard earn money. Now don’t get me wrong here, there are some of us that can’t work because of a disability, but when I see someone at a red light, corner or whatever else, begging for money, I won’t help them, if there is anyone could be out there asking for a handout, I would make the perfect candidate to do that, but that is wrong and that I hope who ever is reading this understands what it is I’m trying to do.It may seem a little confusing what I’m trying to do and you the ( reader) may be asking he or her self who is it I’m trying to help& the answer to that question is everyone in the world.
