Seven-Time MotoGP Champion Valentino Rossi could be a few years away from his next championship victory. The Ducati rider failed to win a race for the first time in his career during the 2011 season, a problem that he hopes to rectify in 2012.
But Rossi isn’t getting ahead of himself. The Doctor knows that the gap between his Ducati, Stoner’s Honda, and Lorenzo’s Yamaha is big, and that a championship victory in 2012 will be difficult. Rossi is, however, hoping to race with the front-runners this year and take a few victories.
Rossi, who is currently at the week-long Wrooom media event with his teammate Nicky Hayden in Madonna di Campiglio, told Visor Down: “The championship will be difficult because the gap in 2011 was quite big.
“Our target is to fix the problems one by one and try to come closer to Yamaha and Honda. From there we will work to fix all the details in order to be competitive for the victory.”
Rossi doesn’t want to count himself out for the 2012 championship just yet, but the 7-time MotoGP champ knows that it will be a tough road this season.
“I do not want to say from the start that I cannot fight for the championship,” Rossi said. “But I have to be realistic.”
