Favorite Ride Contest Winners

Congratulations to our “Favorite Ride” winners!

1st: George “GEO” Paturalski

Today was a great day. Got an early start, as I wanted to repack my gear to get the weight distribution to my satisfaction. Kickstand up and wheels turning at 7:45 AM. Took a quick spin through the Club on my way out, as our Member/Guest was just getting underway. Spotted a few friends warming up, waved goodbye, and set out in earnest. Weather was great when I left; in the low 70s and overcast. I rode for 200 miles before stopping and got a hearty breakfast. After refueling, I headed northwest in mid 80s temps as the day was warming. Traffic was comfortably light, and all went well until about 3:30 PM, when the rain hit. Not too bad, but had to stop and “gear up”. Met a nice group of riders at the underpass doing the same thing…and we sat for about 20 minutes to let the main front move on a bit.

2 riders and 1 chase truck took off from Mountain Home, Idaho.  5 months in the making we were finally on our way.  Heading West on I-84 (YAWN) we headed into Boise, Idaho and picked up our 3rd rider and 2 more passengers.  3 riders and 5 Passengers in the chase truck headed out of town on State Street and then turned right on Idaho 55 heading toward McCall, Idaho.  Idaho 55 is a pretty good road with several hills and turns and straights heading into Horseshoe Bend, Idaho.  Heading out of Horseshoe Bend we were ready for the construction wait from the one lane road and pilot car ahead of us.

We left Toledo around 1030am for our first day’s destination of Frankfort, Michigan. It looked like we were in for light rain between Grand Rapids and Muskegon. Unfortunately, the weather built; and we ran into a downpour just outside of Muskegon. We geared up and continued to Manistee. The rain that we had outrun was catching back up with us, so we pushed the rest of the way to Frankfort. We checked into the Harbor Lights Resort and grabbed Perch Sandwiches from the Villa Marine Bar for dinner. We left Frankfort for Charlevoix in the morning. Along the way, we rode to the Pt. Betsie Lighthouse and through the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore.
