The End of Big Dog Motorcycles? Big Dog’s Future Uncertain

big_dog_motorcyclesBig Dog Motorcycles could be coming to an end soon. After another round of layoffs, Big Dog has supposedly halted production at its factory in Wichita, Kansas. According to various reports, Big Dog will resume production as a parts manufacturer and distributor.

On Monday, Big Dog Motorcycles cut another 10 workers from its staff, dropping the number of employees to 22. According to the Wichita Eagle, Big Dog hasn’t produced any new motorcycles this year. Instead, they are currently filling orders for parts and supplies.

Rick Fairless, who caries Big Dog at his dealership, Strokers Dallas, told Dealer News that production at Big Dog has stopped.

“It was something that you dreaded and hoped the day would never arrive,” Fairless told Dealer News. “Of all the manufacturers I’ve worked with, none came close to taking care of their dealers like Sheldon Coleman and Big Dog. It’s kind of the end of an era.”

Big Dog’s president Mike Simmons has not made an official announcement yet. Simmons told the Wall Street Journal that Big Dog was still open for business as of Monday, but he did not comment on the future of Big Dog Motorcycles.
