Carlos Checa has won three of the first four races in the 2011 World Superbike season. Checa won both races at Phillip Island, finished second in the first race at Donington Park, and just won race two in dominating fashion.
Checa won the second race at Donington Park by more than three seconds ahead of race one winner, Marco Melandri. Melandri’s performance at Donington keeps him right behind Checa in the points standings. Checa leads the series currently with 91 points, 19 points ahead of Melandri.
Leon Camier took third place today behind Melandri. Camier challenged Melandri for second throughout most of the race, but couldn’t keep up in the final laps, and Melandri finished with three seconds of breathing room.
Leon Haslam took fourth place for the second time today, and World Superbike rookie Joan Lascorz had his best finish of the season in fifth.
A diverse line of manufacturers filled the top five spots, and with Jonathan Rea finishing 6th with Honda, and Michel Fabrizio finishing 7th with Suzuki, the top seven spots were filled by seven different motorcycles.
Max Biaggi, who could only muster a seventh place finish in race one, was disqualified from race two. Biaggi was called into the pits to serve a drive-thru penalty, but continued to lap. Biaggi was black flagged, and earned no points in the second race at Donington. Biaggi’s poor results at Donington dropped him down to fourth place in the overall standings behind Leon Haslam.
