Jorge Lorenzo Wins Sportsperson of the Year Award

Jorge_Lorenzo_Wins_Sports_Person_of_the_Year_Award2010 MotoGP champion Jorge Lorenzo has just been given another award. Lorenzo was awarded the 2010 Don Felipe de Borbón prize for the best sportsperson of the year. Marc Marquez, the 125cc World Champion, was also give the best sportsperson of the year award, for athletes under the age of 18.

Lorenzo was honored at the Spanish National Sports Awards at the El Pardo palace on Monday. The awards ceremony was presided over by the Spanish Royal Family.

“Spanish sport is now on a clear international projection beyond our borders,” said Don Juan Carlos, the King of Spain, in a speech addressing the winners. “I want to highlight the successes of our sportspeople as they help our country to represent itself on a global scale.”

“Their attitude and constant work rate are of great pride and should serve as an example to all of us. 2010 has been one of the best years in the history of Spanish sport, and the spirit of survival and companionship shown by our athletes is also worthy of special mention. Their successes serve as examples and we should continue working like this.”
