BMW Races in British Superbike Championship

Buildbase BMW Motorrad Team - BSB We all know that BMW is campaigning its S1000RR in the FIM World Superbike Championship with riders Troy Corser and Leon Haslam. You may have also heard that BMW is set to enter the Australian Superbike Championship in 2011.

Well, even more racing is in the cards for the German marque as they will also officially enter the 2011 MCE British Superbike Championship with a three rider assault on three classes – Superbike, BSB-EVO and Superstock.

In 2010 BMW’s S1000RR – their first ever purpose-built supersport machine – took two championships in Great Britain, the BSB-EVO and the Metzeler National Superstock 1000 titles, and it also claimed the world championship in the FIM Superstock 1000 Cup. Thus expectations are high for the new BSB team.

BMW has signed up with Buildbase and Hawk Racing to create the Buildbase BMW Motorrad Team which will employ BMW S1000RR in WSB trim John Laverty, Barry Burrell, and Richard Cooper. Laverty will remain in the BSB Championship, where he finished eighth overall in 2010. Superstock rider Burrell is destined to move over to the BSB-EVO class for the first time in his career. And, Cooper will also stay in his class, Superstock 1000, and once again pilot the S1000RR in 2011.

Next season’s British Superbike Championship series is shaping up to be even more competitive than the 2010 season. With BMW and Hawk Racing, plus three phenomenal riders, the Buildbase BMW Motorrad Team looks to be preparing for a serious assault on three separate championships – championships they may actually win. Get ready for some great racing in England in 2011!
