Jorge Lorenzo took the win this morning for the MotoGP in Portugal. It is his third consecutive win at the Estoril track, each of which he won from the pole position.Lorenzo beat out his Fiat Yamaha teammate, Valentino Rossi, to claim his 8th win of the 2010 MotoGP season. Rossi and Lorenzo battled during the first half of the race, but by lap 17, Lorenzo began to extend his lead and would end up crossing the checkered flags 8 seconds ahead of his teammate.
Lorenzo has already clinched the 2010 MotoGP title, but his win today at Estoril keeps him in the hunt to break Rossi’s record points total of 373 that he set in 2008. Lorenzo currently has 358 points.
Behind Rossi, there was another wide gap before Andrea Dovizioso crossed the finish line. Dovizioso took the third place spot on the podium, finishing more than 17 seconds behind Rossi. Dovizioso and Marco Simoncelli fought to the finish for the third place spot. Simoncelli would claim fourth place, finishing behind Dovizioso by just .05 seconds.
Nicky Hayden took the fifth place spot, followed by Randy de Puniet, and Colin Edwards.
Dani Pedrosa, who made his return to the MotoGP today, finished in 8th.
