Andrea Iannone took his third win of the Moto2 season today, and he did it with ease. Iannone started from the pole position and led every lap of the Moto2 race at Aragon. Iannone would finish the race with more than a 6 second lead ahead of Julian Simon, Gabor Talmacsi, and Toni Elias.
The Moto2 race started with a crash at lap one that took out Alex Baldolini, Mattia Pasini, Fonsi Nieto, Ricky Cardus, and Yonny Hernandez. All the riders were uninjured. The field was cut down even further when Alex de Angelis took a disappointing crash.
Season leader Toni Elias, who started in 20th, was able to use the opening crash to his advantage and quickly moved himself up in the standings. By the midway point, Elias was in 10th place.
Julain Simon and Gabor Talmacsi were never able to get close to Iannone, but the battle for second was intense. Talmasci charged late in the race, but wasn’t able to pass up Simon.
Elias continued to gain on the rest of the pack, and had an impressive finish in 4th.
Elias still holds 76 points ahead of Simon. Iannone moves into third, ahead of Tomas Luthi, and is just 4 points out of second.
