Shoei RF-1100 Helmet Review

Take the popular Shoei RF-1000 and add new protective and comfort features, increased visibility and Snell 2010 standards and you have one heck of a helmet, the Shoei RF-1100.  Shoei has been constantly evolving and the RF 1100 helmet is a perfect example of that. Created from the latest technology and customer input, the next generation Shoei RF-1100 helmet features a new venting system, increased visibility by 5mm on each side, new shield and visor mount system and newly styled graphics – all of which are of optimum quality.

Max Airflow

One of the most notable features on the RF-1100 is the newly designed ventilation system. Unlike its predecessor the RF-1000, the RF-1100 features a rear spoiler, which reduces lift, built into the shape of the helmet. The exhaust ventilation features three intake and six exhaust vents, four exhaust vents are located at the back of the helmet to help air move through the shell and limit buffeting.

A unique feature that makes this helmet stand out is the distinctive designed face shield. The shield is made to be wider and taller and has a spring loaded locking system which provides a tighter seal from weather and air as well as has a three position setting: Locked, Open & Cracked for Defog. The eye port on the RF-1100 does not actually seem as large as the RF-1000 mostly due to the wider (taller) chin bar on the former. The outward vision is not as great as other helmets, but slightly better than average.

There are several useful features that make this helmet a good value for your money. The entire inside lining can be removed for washing and the new design allows comfort for those who wear eyeglasses. The outside shell is made of fiber materials with elastic organic fibers making the helmet lightweight. With five shell shapes (which is probably one of the reasons for the high price of this helmet) instead of the three which its predecessor had, fits just about any head size out there.

Overall, the Shoei RF-1100 is on the higher end of the spectrum, starting around $399.99 to about $499.99 depending on the graphics.  However, Shoei went out on a limb with this model by introducing new venting system, new visor technology and baseplate systems, completely new style of fashionable graphics available in five shell shapes. If you are looking for a more comfortable, well ventilated and stylish helmet, we recommend the Shoei RF-1100.

Pros:  Excellent face shield quality and operation

Feels solid and is very light

Cons:   Some Noise from top vents and the vent covers can be difficult to operate at first

  1. I got my new RF1100 at a big discount when I purchased my new bike. But I wanted to say It’s great. It fits my head shape ,and gives all day comfort. Very Quiet ,even with the vents open. The air flow through the vents is excellent. The face shield gives opimal
vision ,and the optical quality is top notch. It seals up tight when closed, and is easy to operate while wearing gloves. The arodynamics on this helmet blows away any other I’ve used. I feel this helmet is well worth the price .
